The Engineering, Construction and Resources Innovation Hub (ECRi Hub) has been established to link innovative technology, end users, investors and international partners to identify commercial opportunities throughout Queensland.

The ECRi Hub works with its partners on opportunities to bring new ideas, productivity increases and cost savings to these important industries.

ECRi Hub activities

These activities aim to maintain and grow global market share for our local industries and attract international recognition:

  • Target late-stage technology opportunities with pathway assistance
Target opportunities currently at proof-of-concept or prototype stage and also provide support to help any new technology navigate the right pathway to growth. National interest is invited, however economic benefit for Queensland must be demonstrated.

  • Provide facilitator/mentor role
Assist in commercialising innovation specific to the engineering, construction and resources sectors through consulting services, industry mentoring and market guidance.

  • Provide business-to-business linkages
Connect relevant parts of the startup ecosystem with existing innovation and funding programs and end users of the innovations.

  • Foster further innovation
Develop programs and events to encourage collaboration and cross-pollination of ideas within the engineering, construction and resource sectors.

The ECRi Hub operates alongside other government programs such as Advance Queensland, METS Ignited and regional innovation hubs to grow a vibrant innovation community. This collaboration will drive innovation, productivity and international competitiveness, leading to job creation in these sectors.

Get involved with the Hub

The ECRi Hub offers opportunities for project venturers with bright ideas to gain access to industry-leading consultancy and mentoring services and funding support.

In 2016 the ECRi Hub called for expressions of interest in a Business Mentoring for Innovation Program, attracting several applications that have been short-listed to ten.

The successful applicants from across the state are:

  • Q-Cool Pty Ltd, for a revolutionary re-engineered air conditioning solution
  • Strusol Pty Ltd, for a cost saving building system utilising pre-cast concrete construction
  • George’s Loader Hire Pty Ltd, for an electronically controlled height detection system for heavy machinery
•, for a global crowd sourcing marketplace for engineering services

  • WMMC Pty Ltd, for a robotic scanner for marine infrastructure

Sunshine Coast

Gold Coast

The first stage of the program includes the following activities:

  • business analysis and fact-finding workshops
  • research and market analysis
  • strategies
  • identifying anticipated outcomes and opportunities across industries, geographies, markets and clients
  • documenting the next steps to commercialise the innovations.

Four of the ten participants will advance to a second, more intensive stage focusing on developing industry partnerships and achieving longer-term outcomes.

When these companies leave the program they will have important market insights and directions needed to get their product to market.

Enquiries about other opportunities are encouraged.
