The state has entered into exclusive negotiations with a preferred proponent for the development of a new Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) facility in Fortitude Valley.
Since 1965 the PCYC has been playing an important role in fostering the development of local young people through a range of services and programs, including sport, youth leadership and crime-prevention.
The facility, located at 458 Wickham Street, is over 50 years old.
Government is working with a the preferred proponent to deliver a new PCYC that will bring jobs during construction, improved services to those who use the facility and better outcomes for the broader community.
Following an Expression of Interest campaign, two shortlisted proponents were invited to submit detailed proposals for the development opportunity.
The Request for Detailed Proposals was released to the two parties on 3 May 2017 and closed on 4 August 2017.
Details of the preferred proponent and the proposed new PCYC facility will be released once negotiations are completed, which is anticipated to be in November 2017.
