Stretching from Gladstone, home to Queensland's largest multi-commodity port, to Bedourie and beyond to the Northern Territory border, this hugely diverse region features agriculture and mining, including coal and CSG/LNG, as its main economic strengths, combined with eco, adventure, backpacker, reef, indigenous and cultural tourism opportunities. CQUniversity's campuses throughout the region make it a major centre for education and training, while the Shoalwater Bay Training Area is a focal point for military training by the Australian Defence Force and the Singapore Armed Forces.
