The Office of the Coordinator-General (OCG) is at the forefront of delivering Queensland’s strategic priorities, turning vision into action through whole-of-government coordination. A key focus of our work is enabling projects of national significance, such as the Taroom Trough Development Plan, which is set to play a critical role in strengthening Queensland’s and Australia’s fuel security.
The Taroom Trough Development Plan
Located in Central Queensland, the Taroom Trough is a significant resource basin with the potential to bolster domestic fuel production and reduce reliance on imports. Recognising its importance, the Coordinator-General has been directed to prepare a Works Regulation for Governor- in- Council approval. This regulation will streamline assessment and delivery under the Taroom Trough Development Plan, ensuring timely and coordinated action to unlock its resource potential.
In partnership with the Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development, we will work closely with project proponents, regulators, and government agencies to:
- Establish a shared vision and development pathway for the Taroom Trough.
- Identify opportunities to leverage existing infrastructure and enable common‑user solutions.
- Improve regulatory efficiency and certainty through coordinated approvals.
- Manage cumulative environmental and social impacts.
- Maintain community confidence, while protecting environmental values.
Driving Queensland’s future
The Taroom Trough project reflects our commitment to creating the conditions for confident investment and disciplined delivery. By aligning strategic priorities with practical outcomes, we are enabling the development of critical infrastructure that supports Queensland’s energy security, economic growth and sustainability.
We are proud to play a central role in shaping Queensland’s future, ensuring that transformative projects like the Taroom Trough deliver lasting benefits for our state.
