Strategic move to be close to rail
SCT Logistics is a national, multi-modal transport and logistics company. They operate rail and road haulage plus also offer warehousing services.
SCT Logistics relocated from Acacia Ridge to their current location on a 130-hectare site in the Bromelton State Development Area (SDA), 75km south of Brisbane. It’s strategically located on Beaudesert–Boonah Road in Bromelton, adjoining the rail line between Brisbane and Sydney. This gives SCT Logistics easy access to the national standard-gauge rail network, providing them with better access to intrastate and interstate markets.
The Australian Government granted SCT Logistics $9.6 million to assist with their relocation through the National Stronger Regions Fund.
Freight terminal a boost for Bromelton
SCT Logistics established their $30 million intermodal rail freight facility in the Bromelton SDA on 23 January 2017. This was the date when the first train arrived at the new Bromelton freight terminal carrying cargo for their customers from Melbourne to Brisbane. It now receives 4 train services a week between Melbourne and Brisbane.
The intermodal rail freight facility has brought economic benefits for both SCT Logistics and the region, providing 125 jobs locally. Further employment opportunities will be created, in the vicinity of 1,000 jobs, as SCT Logistics progress and evolve as a business throughout the Scenic Rim.
It supports the strategic vision for the Bromelton SDA to maximise the utilisation of the rail network by providing for multi modal freight transport interchanges and facilities.
How the Coordinator-General helped make this happen
The Coordinator-General approved SCT Logistics’ proposal for a material change of use for high impact industry (intermodal rail freight facility and warehouses).
This approval by the Coordinator-General resulted in SCT Logistics building their train freight terminal at the Bromelton SDA.
